We are delighted to share the launch of our new and revitalised prefect system at The Chase – a development that reflects our commitment to nurturing student leadership, encouraging personal responsibility and promoting a strong sense of community.
This refreshed approach provides meaningful opportunities for students to grow in confidence, organisation and communication, while making a tangible difference within the school and beyond. From mentoring younger pupils to supporting local initiatives such as Malvern Foodbank, prefects will play an important role in reinforcing the values that shape our school culture.
For many years, our prefect team has included a large number of Year 11 students – often more than 60 – who have supported the school through a variety of duties, including lunchtime supervision, Open Events and helping new Year 7 pupils to settle in. Their contributions have always been greatly valued.
However, as part of our ongoing development of student leadership, we have introduced a more streamlined structure. This year, we are pleased to announce a smaller team of 16–20 prefects, selected for their commitment, reliability and leadership potential. These students will take on more focused responsibilities, designed to both support the wider school community and enhance their own personal growth.
To be considered for the role, students submitted a written application outlining why they wanted to become a prefect, the personal qualities they would bring to the role and any relevant experience – such as helping at Open Evenings, volunteering in the community or taking part in leadership programmes like Sports Leaders. Those who wished to be considered for the role of Head Prefect were also invited to express their interest at this stage.
We would like to congratulate all those who have now been appointed to the new prefect team. Over the coming weeks, they will begin working with their assigned Year 7 tutor groups, offering guidance and support to our newest students. They will also take part in key events such as Charities Week and serve as Chase Ambassadors for Malvern Foodbank – gaining valuable insight into the work of local charitable organisations.
Interviews for the position of Head Prefect will be taking place shortly, and we look forward to announcing the successful candidates in due course. These individuals will lead the prefect team and work alongside our Sixth Form Head Boy and Head Girl to form a strong and united student leadership network across the school.
Becoming a prefect is a significant responsibility, and we are proud of the enthusiasm and maturity our students have shown throughout the application process. We are confident that this new system will bring real benefits to both the school and the students involved, and we look forward to seeing our new prefect team thrive in their roles over the coming year.
