Exciting New Greenpower Racing Project Launches at The Chase

The Chase School is thrilled to announce the launch of a brand-new extra-curricular activity for our current Year 7 and 8 students - the Greenpower Chase Team.

In the coming weeks, students will be invited to apply for a place on this unique project, which offers the chance to design, build and race a single-seat electric car as part of the national Formula 24 programme, run by the Greenpower Education Trust.

Our aim is to build a mixed team of Year 8 and 9 students from September, bringing together a range of interests and skills to take on this exciting engineering challenge.

This inspiring initiative gives students a real-world insight into the world of engineering and motorsport. Working together as a team, they will use a standard 24v electric motor and two 12v batteries to design and construct a car capable of competing in a 3-hour endurance race at renowned racing circuits across the UK.

The Greenpower challenge does more than develop technical and practical skills – it also promotes creativity, teamwork and problem-solving, while encouraging young people to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

Mr Ed Dixon, Faculty Leader of Design & Technology, said:

“We’re incredibly excited to launch this opportunity at The Chase. It’s about much more than just building a car – it’s about inspiring future engineers, giving students hands-on experience, and helping them develop transferable skills that will benefit them for years to come.”

We are extremely grateful to Malvern Hills District Council and Friends of The Chase for their generous funding, which has been essential in enabling us to get the project off the ground.

The Greenpower Education Trust is recognised nationally for its impact on addressing the UK’s STEM skills shortage. Backed by major industry leaders including Siemens, Jaguar Land Rover and BMW, the programme gives students valuable experience in areas ranging from design and engineering to sponsorship and project management.

Importantly, the project opens doors to a wide range of career pathways. While some students may be inspired to pursue mechanical or automotive engineering, others may develop interests in product design, computer-aided design (CAD), project planning, data analysis, business, marketing or digital media. This is a hands-on introduction to the many professional roles that come together to make high-level innovation and performance possible.

As part of the project, students will not only be building the car but also taking responsibility for branding and identity. Choosing a team name, creating a logo and developing the team's visual identity will all form part of their work - giving them a true sense of ownership and pride.

We will be sharing regular updates as the project gets underway, including opportunities for local businesses to invest in and sponsor our Chase team. This is a fantastic opportunity for the wider community to support the next generation of engineers, designers and innovators.

Watch this space - and join us on the journey as we bring our electric racing team to life!
