On Friday 21 April The Chase commemorated 70 years since the school first opened its doors on 21 April 1953.

To celebrate this milestone, an oak tree, kindly donated by John Richards Nurseries, Colwall, was planted on the front lawn by The Chase’s first Head Boy and Head Girl and the current Head Boy and Head Girl.

This was followed by tea and cake with a small group of former students from the 1950’s and a tour of the school.

Mike Fieldhouse, Headteacher said “Thank you to everyone who helped to make our first anniversary event such a special occasion. It was fascinating to learn more about former students’ memories of their time at The Chase including where certain classrooms and buildings used to be, and that the workbenches in the Design & Technology Department are still the original ones!”

He added: “Further celebrations are planned in July with a three-day summer exhibition of memorabilia collected over the last seven decades. Members of the public are invited to come along on 4 – 6 July between 2pm and 5pm to view the exhibition.  We will also be offering a guided tour of the school each day and we hope that many former students will be able to join us.”
