Headteachers Blog 19 – July 2018

Nearly there- just 1 week and 2 days to go before the school breaks up for the summer holiday!

I purposefully avoided writing this blog until the day after the England v Croatia World Cup football game, to help give me an idea of what to write. So……it was good while it lasted, though I must admit that I was certainly one who wasn’t getting too carried away after so many disappointments in following the England football team during my lifetime. Winning is always great and the enjoyment that the England team has provided the country has been a real tonic during these somewhat uncertain times within the UK. The things we can learn from the England football team is that a winning mentality creates a momentum with success leading to more success, and that winning and being successful helps to provide a greater self-confidence and inner self-belief. Working as an effective team with all players having a pivotal role to play is also very important. Resilience is also key to longer term success with the England players now having to pick themselves up after defeat on Wednesday evening. These are all key attributes which we try and instil in our children as they progress through their education.

The England football team are young in age and were low in experience prior to this tournament with little expectation weighing them down. I have no doubt that this World Cup run to the semi-finals will help hugely with these football players’ development and I am sure that we will see more positive results from them in the future.

A reminder that The Chase Summer Fair, organised by The Friends of The Chase is scheduled to take place on Friday 20th July between 6-8pm. There will be guaranteed fun for all the family, including a chance to ‘soak the Headteacher’ and to socialise with staff and parents before we close for the end of term. Remember that the school closes for the summer holidays on Tuesday 24th July after the school’s annual Hills’ Walk.

We will be reopening for business on Wednesday 5th September for our new Year 7 and Year 12 students and Thursday 6th September for all our other students.

And that is it…my final Headteacher’s blog of this academic year. I would like to thank everybody for their generous support during the past year. We believe that it has been a very positive year for The Chase as we strive to make this school the best school we possibly can in order to help meet the needs of all of our students. I very much hope that everybody has a great summer holiday and here is hoping for a continuation of this lovely warm weather for its duration!
