Enrichment/Gifted and Talented Students

The Chase Logo

"...the school's strong and supportive ethos concerning gifted and talented provision was very clear to see....it is a most inspiring place to visit."

Dr Ruth Hewston from The National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth

The Chase has high expectations of all students and encourages a culture where success is valued and celebrated. The school recognises that there are students who have abilities beyond the large majority of their peer group and one of the aims of the School Policy for Gifted and Talented Students is to ensure a consistent approach to the identification and support of such students. The school recognises the need to stretch its most able students, beyond the basic demands of the National Curriculum, by the way students are grouped (‘fast tracking') and the interesting and stimulating ways in which they are taught. Within this context, departments provide differentiated work, where possible, and use a variety of teaching styles.

Extra curricular activities also provide invaluable enrichment opportunities for students. The school's energetic and committed staff offer a wide range of such activities including History trips to Normandy, English and Art trips to Italy, as well as a vast array of music and sporting activities at County and National level. The excellence of the enrichment opportunities at The Chase has been regularly acknowledged and confirmed by OFSTED.  In addition, a number of students are nominated for membership of the DCSF led Young Gifted and Talented website. Membership allows them the opportunity to attend Summer Schools as well as Outreach events during the year. Able sixth form students are also encouraged to apply for Open University courses via the Young Applicants in Schools scheme.
